BMI Calculator

A quick body-mass-index check — with a reminder about what the number does and doesn't mean.

Your result

Enter height and weight to calculate BMI.

Body Mass Index is a simple screening number based on height and weight. It can be a useful starting point for a conversation with a doctor, but it doesn't tell the whole story — especially for older adults, where muscle and bone changes matter.

Common questions

How is BMI calculated?

BMI is your weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared. In US units, it's 703 times weight in pounds divided by height in inches squared. This tool does the math for you.

What is a healthy BMI?

Generally, under 18.5 is considered underweight, 18.5–24.9 healthy, 25–29.9 overweight, and 30 or above obese. For older adults these ranges are only a rough guide — ask a doctor what's right for the individual.
